cryp·tol·o·gy:
the science of analyzing and deciphering codes and ciphers and
cryptograms
Since the early stages of
society, people have used cryptology to encrypt, or scramble,
information to ensure that only the intended recipient could read and
understand the message. While the basics of cryptology have not
changed, it has changed to keep pace with technology and has evolved
from simple code books to complex mathematical algorithms.
This Web site will tell
the history of cryptology, present three current types of encryption, and
provide some interactive tools.
